Who is it for: Anyone (Christian or non-Christian) who is interested in understanding the harmony between science and the Bible.
After decades of academic debate, the Big Bang Theory has now become the consensus among prominent astronomers, cosmologists, physicists, and other scientists. The universe had a beginning and leaped into existence, thereby creating space and time, and providing a safe environment on Earth for humanity to survive and thrive. Does this agree or contradict the Biblical description of the universe?
This talk explains the formation and characteristics of the universe in layperson's terms. It discusses what scientists have discovered about the universe and explores whether such scientific data are compatible with the Biblical description. Does the Bible tell us about scientific laws? Does the integration of science and our biblical understanding give us confidence in heaven’s existence? Christians have assurance that all truth, including scientific truth, is God’s truth. Even if this universe comes to an end, there is always hope in Jesus Christ.
Speaker Bio:
Zachary Leung (PhD, MIT) is passionate about the reasons for the Christian faith. He is currently a scholar at Reasons to Believe, drawing the reason-minded to the Gospel. He is also a student at Biola University Talbot School of Theology, specializing in the harmony of science and the Christian faith. Zachary was a university professor, research scientist, and entrepreneur in artificial intelligence. He received his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
