The Book of Judges is filled with R-rated stories of violence and scandal, that some may ask, "Why is this in the Bible?" Since we believe Scripture is God-breathed and its writing was led by His Spirit, we can trust that every story was intentionally included to point us to Christ—revealing God’s redemptive plan for our broken world.
This book covers a period in Israelite history between the prophetic leadership of Moses and Joshua and the establishment of the monarchy. Characterized by the line "Everyone did what was right in his own eyes," it reveals how life apart from God gets messy and chaotic, and that it is the cycle of our own sin that creates these very problems.
This class will provide an overview of the Book of Judges, exploring both the triumphs and failures of human leaders, and how God still worked through these flawed individuals to accomplish His purposes. This class will also explore how this book fits into the narrative of the gospel and how the recurring cycles of sin ultimately point to humanity's need for a perfect King and Savior—a need fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
Who it's for: This course is for anyone who finds Old Testament stories difficult to understand, or for those wanting a refresher on the Book of Judges.
