Nepal is the poorest country in South Asia and the 17th poorest in the world. Approximately 25 percent of Nepalis live below the poverty line. Nepal is the country of Mount Everest, the highest mountain peak in the world, and the Birthplace of Gautama Buddha- Lumbini.
According to the 2021 census, 81.19% of Nepalese are Hindu, 8.21% are Buddhist, 4.39% are Muslim, 3.17% are Kiratist (indigenous ethnic religion), and 1.76% are Christian. All of these people from different backgrounds embody a rich Nepali culture. The poor, the indigenous, and persecuted followers of Christ live alongside each other in a nation hungry to be heard, known, and loved.
The mission of God is before us. We are pioneering a new trip and partnership with a short-term mission trip-supported partner who has a presence in this nation. We invite and challenge the men of Island ECC to join us for this missional encounter. We go with a posture to humbly learn from the visionary heart of the missionaries discipling the next generation of believers, to be teachable, to love the local Nepalese persecuted for their faith in Jesus, and to experience culture exchange through receiving hospitality while visiting poverty-stricken communities.
