Remember:
“More important than our games is freedom. More important than our games are the liberated zones in society which offer the opportunity for play. But more important than the games, freedom, and the liberated zones on earth is the Other whom we try to praise out of the depths, before whom we can rejoice and play, laugh, love, and dance, so that the chains fall away.” (Ibid, p. 113)

Why do grown men play?

“Every man has a burning desire for happiness and enjoyment. But our world gives us little cause for rejoicing. To be happy, to enjoy ourselves, we must above all be free. But such freedom has grown scarce. We enjoy ourselves, we laugh, when our burdens are removed, when fetters are falling, pressures yield and obstructions give way. Then our hearts leap within us and we suddenly find it easy to cope with other men and circumstances.”
(Moltmann, Jurgen, Theology of Play, 1971, p. 1)

This freedom is hard to come by in the present evil age.

But remember: We are saved.

Jesus has liberated us from the bonds of Sin and Death. And now we live as free men anticipating the day of complete manifestation of the freedom Jesus Christ died and was resurrected to give us. “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Cor 3:17)

“We enjoy freedom when we anticipate by playing what can and shall be different and when in the process we break the bonds of the immutable status quo. We find pleasure in games and enjoy the suspended state of playing when the game affords us critical perspectives for change in our otherwise burdensome world. In that case the significance of games is identical with that of the arts, namely to construct “anti-environments” and “counter-environments” to ordinary and everyday human environments and through the conscious confrontation of these to open up creative freedom and future alternatives. We are then no longer playing merely with the past in order to escape it for a while, but we are increasingly playing with the future in order to get to know it.”
(Ibid, p. 12, 13)

That’s why we play together as men. That’s why Men’s Fraternity was born. We intend MF to be such a “counter-environment”, a haven for men to have fun together and fight together.

Join us for this gospel-centered prophetic act we call Men’s Game Night.

Through play, we break free from the burdens of everyday life, experiencing a liberating sense of freedom and renewal. As we engage in friendly competition and shared experiences, we foster deep connections that transcend the boundaries of age, occupation, and background.
