United in Faith

Posted by Ka Wong on

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore. Psalm 133

We are at the beginning of a multi-year-long campaign: the Bold Faith Campaign. Over the next few years hopefully everyone at Island ECC will be partnering financially and spiritually with our Lord on this focused campaign. As Pastor Brett mentioned, ‘this is the most important period of our church in its brief history.’ It is also the most vulnerable period for spiritual attacks on the unity within the church.

When I was discussing this campaign with my wife, I was surprised to find that the discussion was more complicated than I had anticipated. Not only was the amount we came up with quite different, but the way of disbursement was also not aligned. I wondered how it was with the rest of the church. How was Bold Faith discussed among families, care groups, accountability groups, or even between parents and children? Was it done with love, joy, encouragement, or was it done with cynicism, bitterness and insecurities? Was the focus of discussion on spiritual blessings or human imperfections?

In Psalm 133, David highlighted how unity in the church is such a pleasant and good thing. He compared it with oil running down a beard and clothes (this is hardly a blessing in the modern world, but such oil was a special recipe created by God and was sacred) and dew falling on Mount Zion. These were blessings only God could grant, and unity among Christians is also a great blessing. How much do we need to protect that from the enemy?

My prayer for us is that we will steer our hearts when we talk about Bold Faith with our loved ones, within our care groups, and essentially within anyconversation in a way so that the unity of Island ECC is preserved and strengthened.

Let us be united by:

  • Praising God for the privilege of partnering with Him to change lives in Hong Kong
  • Asking God to help you focus on His revelation for everyone on this Bold Faith Campaign
