Hope of the World

Posted by Ka Wong on

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:3-5

Christmas is a very unique holiday. It has the special power that brings families, communities, and even enemies together to celebrate love and unity. The birth of one baby two thousand some years ago still gives the biggest hope to mankind today.

Hope is not easy to come by in today’s world. Turn on the news and hope is nowhere to be found. With all the technological and economical advancement, we seem to have made little progress in securing things that we hope for. Our hopes to have a close family, to be loved, to live with others in peace, to have a disease-free world, to have a meaningful job (or just a job), and to be happy have remained unchanged for generations but yet unfulfilled.

Peter says that in God’s mercy we are born into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. A living hope does not die, something we can always have and hold on to. Our Lord also reveals to us in John 14 that he has prepared rooms for us in heaven, and He will personally come back and take us there. How comforting is that? An image of Jesus holding our hands and everyone filled with tremendous joy appears in my mind when I read that. While nothing seems to be worth putting our hopes into, the Son of our Creator has given us that hope by making our salvation possible and promising us an eternal future. With such a living hope, Christians can deal with trials with a different perspective. Trials become perfect vehicles for us to reveal and glorify Jesus. And with the firm belief of our salvation through His resurrection, there is this inexpressible and glorious joy no matter what the circumstance is.

Let’s witness our hope and this glorious joy to the rest of the world who doesn’t know our Savior during this Christmas season.

Make Jesus the hope of the world by:

  • Praising and thanking God for his perfect thoughts and ways in initiating and waiting for you to receive His new birth.
  • Asking God to help you have the desire to share His irresistible love to everyone around you.
