God Promises Us A Double Portion

Posted by Jennifer Sum on

Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion; instead of dishonour they shall rejoice in their lot; therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion; they shall have everlasting joy. Isaiah 61:7

Do you ever feel discouraged by your past mistakes and regrets? My friend, please do not put those old rags back on – our Saviour has already removed them from you with His death and resurrection! He has clothed you with His righteousness.

God does not just take away our shame and brokenness, He promises a double portion of blessing! It is at least mentioned in our theme verse above and in Isaiah 50:7 – But the Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame.

All it takes is for us to acknowledge our sins and repent, and God has already done everything else to redeem us and our circumstances for His glory!

Sometimes He allows us to walk through tough times, so we can experience the sweetness of His redemption and spiritual renewal. It is usually to build our character and strengthen our faith. So, odd as this may sound, praise God for trials and tribulations, resting in the knowledge that He has a greater plan for us which our human eyes cannot see.

God has also clearly said in Isaiah 55:8-9 on how his thoughts and ways are higher than ours – “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways… as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

Receive God’s double portion by:

  • Praising God for your friendships, work opportunities, health and wonderful smile.
  • Asking Him to show you His righteousness and sovereignty as he guides you to His peace, joy and love in all circumstances.
