Christmas: God’s Love for Us

Posted by Ramon Maronilla on

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Christmas is usually a very busy time for most people. There are parties to attend, gifts to buy, families to visit, friends to celebrate with. While it’s a good time to enjoy the blessings that God has given us, it can easily distract us from what it’s really all about. Above all else, Christmas is such a blessed reminder of God’s amazing love for us. While we were helpless, hopeless, rebellious sinners, Christ died for us so that we might live through Him. There is nothing we have done to deserve this love. Rather, we’ve done everything to deserve His wrath.

But God loves us because of who He is, not because of what we’ve done. His unconditional love means He loves us on our bad days just as He loves us on our good days. He loves us even though we don’t feel it, and even when we don’t think we deserve it. There is nothing we can do to change the fact that God loves us, and nothing we can do that can make Him love us more or less!

This incredibly wonderful news of God’s love is so revolutionary and counter-cultural that it’s easy to forget. So it’s something we constantly need to remind ourselves of, share with others, and express in different ways. For our families and ourselves we can use this time to refocus on Christ by meditating on the Gospels and devotionals through the advent season. With others we can use lunch or dinner gatherings to start conversations with simple questions like “what do you look forward to this Christmas season?” and use the opportunity to share what Christmas means to us. Finally, we can extend God’s love to others through activities that benefit the less fortunate who can never repay us in any way.

Christmas is a gift that allows us to be reminded of God’s amazing love for us and to share it with others through words and actions. How will you make the most of this Christmas season?

Share God’s love for us by:

  • Thanking God for the love that we have within our Island ECC community and the wonderful fellowships that He has blessed our church with.
  • Praying for the Christmas Eve service at Queen Elizabeth Stadium for God to soften and touch every heart with His unconditional love for them not to delay in responding.
