Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go towards the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place. And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. — Acts 8:26–27
Christian tradition holds that the first missionary to Africa was Mark, the gospel writer, in 60 AD. Christian missions to Africa since then have been storied with many successes and setbacks. None can argue, however, that Christianity has been a powerful agent of change in the continent as missions brought education, literacy and hope for the disadvantaged. At Island ECC, we work with long-term partners and send short-term missions to various countries in the continent annually to positively impact communities and share the good news of Christ.
We partner with a theological institute in Kenya that serves the local churches and leaders in the Arab world.

After the 1994 Genocide devastated the lives of the Rwandese, they have risen up to the hope and challenges of their lives. The older generation still carries the scars of the past, while the younger generation is building up their nation with the hope. There is also the youngest generation who did not experience the genocide and live in the bright hope of the present and future. Each of us here and there have an inheritance. What are we passing on from generation to generation? As Rwanda’s economy improves and more foreign investments and interests pour in, the Rwandese youth are faced with many opportunities and challenges of living in a globalised world. We will share our experiences to further equip and root ourselves in the foundation to never forget the past, live in the joy of today, and always remember the promises for the future. Find out more.
