Who's it for:
Anyone who wants to learn how to live out God’s calling for them amidst oppositions and challenges.

Description:
The book of Nehemiah is the story of the Israelites exiles’ return to Jerusalem and the rebuilding of the city wall led by Nehemiah, a Jew who is a cupbearer (high-ranked official) at the Persian court. He also dedicated the city wall and its people to God’s laws (Torah). Along the way, he faced oppositions and challenges, but he overcame them with the strength of the Lord.

Even though we are not rebuilding a physical wall for a nation, we are building our faith in God and building up the lives of people around us. However, in similar ways, we are also faced with oppositions and challenges along the way. How can we respond to God’s calling for us? Through understanding the book of Nehemiah, we will have a better grasp at carrying out God’s calling for us. The book will also reveal to us who God is and how we as followers of God can easily stumble at times. God’s guidance and love always prevail and continually lead us regardless of where we are.

Week 1: Chapters 1-2 - Nehemiah’s return from Persia
Week 2: Chapters 3-7 - Rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem
Week 3: Chapters 8-10 - Renewal of God’s law and covenant with the people of Israel
Week 4: Chapters 11-13 - Dedicating the city walls

By the end of this class, each participant should have a better understanding of the Book of Nehemiah, including its history, background, and interpretation. Application is a big part of this class. There will be quizzes and weekly applications that corresponds to those chapters.
