Who this course is for:
The class is for anyone who desires to understand better the amazing content in the earliest gospel, while also learning fascinating details on how it relates to the other three gospels.  An added benefit is seeing photos taken in a recent trip to Israel of the very places where Jesus and the disciples traveled.

Description:
Students will experience this Gospel in a way that helps them know and feel differently about the life of Jesus and the way Jesus assisted his early stumbling disciples (and us today!) in following him.  While Mark is the shortest of the gospels, it is also one of the most dramatic in its portrayal of Jesus’ life and ministry.  Students will gain clarity not only on Mark’s structure and content, but also gain an understanding of how it relates and differs from the other gospels, especially the Synoptic ones (Matthew and Luke).   The sessions will focus on:

Week 1 = Understanding New Testament times and geography; the structure of Mark; the Synoptic gospels

Week 2 = The ministry of Jesus in Galilee (Mark 1-8:21); looking at the major teachings of Jesus

Week 3 = Jesus’ travels around villages (Mark 8:22-10); understanding true discipleship and suffering

Week 4 = Jesus in Jerusalem (Mark 11-16); place of religion and impact of Jesus’ death

Format:
Lecture, with handouts and recent photos/videos from major sites in Israel; Q&A.
