We all know this has been an unprecedented year for Hong Kong. The protests and the Coronavirus have impacted everyone, but the poor have been hit hardest. Many have lost income on already low-paying jobs, or have been unemployed, leading to worry and insecurity about the most basic necessities such as food and rent.

In response, the government has launched a $10,000 handout scheme for every permanent resident. Some of us have been abundantly blessed and don't need the handout. The Bible tells us that everything belongs to God and every good and perfect gift comes from Him - that includes this handout.

Hope of the City is Island ECC's expression of care and compassion for Hong Kong's poor. We would like to direct giving from our congregation to Hope of the City to bring relief to those who need it most.

May we be generous, like the Macedonian Church: "In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people."
2 Corinthians 8:2-4
