China Coast Community Nursing Home - Nursing Home Outreach

Last Sunday of the month

There are many lonely elderly living in Hong Kong. A team of volunteers, with a heart to show compassion, visits an English-speaking nursing home every last Sunday of the month. Another team visits the neglected elderly in the Quarry Bay area once a quarter.  The teams lead the residents of these homes in singing, in doing simple crafts and games, or just being present with a listening ear. This is a very meaningful way to show the love of God.

Orphanage Ministry / China

Twice a month on Saturdays

A group of almost volunteers travel each Saturday to love children who have been orphaned or abandoned in southern China. This orphanage is a place for “special needs” children, who are suffering from small physical difficulties to severe mental and physical disabilities. The team goes to hold, hug, sing, play games with the children; but the ultimate goal is to just be the loving hands of Christ. We go with the thought of loving the children, but often we come back having been loved as well and having received much joy in return.

Lighthouse Ministry (Barnabas Girl’s Drug Rehab Home)

Once a month on Saturdays

In this city, the number of reported drug abusers aged below 21 has gone up by 57% over the past four years. Half of them started taking drugs when they were 15 years old or younger. God is using Christian drug rehab centres in Hong Kong to transform and heal these young lives.

Barnabas is a Christian drug rehab home for girls. We are looking for volunteers who have a heart to walk with these young girls and build friendships that will help them understand Christ's love for them. We hope to build up their self-esteem and their faith in God. We also hope that we can be examples to them so that when they come out of the centre, they will have strength to start a new life without drugs.

Men’s Prison Ministry (Tung Tau Correctional Institute and Pik Uk Correctional Institute)

Sundays (once a month)

We have been given the privilege of being part of ministering to the English speaking inmates in 2 men’s prisons in Hong Kong (Pik Uk and Tung Tau). For many, this is a time they can ask questions about God, explore the meaning of life, have fellowship and prayer, and most importantly to know that someone cares about them and they are not forgotten. They are touched by volunteers who intentionally give up their time to visit them and meaningful relationships can be formed. Through these visits many inmates have experienced the love of God, grown in their walk with Christ, and some have even believed in Him for the first time. Currently, we have a need for extra MEN to join the teams.

Women Prison Correspondence Ministry

Monthly correspondence

There are many inmates who would appreciate a word of encouragement and care in the form of letters. Due to the restriction of group visits to the women’s prison, this ministry is even more needed for those we do not get to see. If you can be a part of sharing God’s love and word through correspondence, please contact us and we will match you with an inmate.

InLove Ministry (previously known as Roadside)

Saturday afternoons 2-5pm

This is a ministry for local teenagers who are either orphaned or have difficult home situations. We meet together every Saturday afternoon. A team of volunteers gather at Island ECC for a time of fun, fellowship, message and small group discussions. They need people who are willing to walk with them and mentor them. Cantonese speakers are preferred.

Shalom Ministry (Tutoring for kids from abused families)

Weekly during School Year

Shalom Ministry ministers to underprivileged or abused families, who have been victims of abuse. The Po Leung Kuk (family centre) has asked us to partner with them to provide support to these families, mostly by providing tutoring for children aged 8 to 14 years for one and a half hours per week during school terms. If you are interested in bringing blessing and love to these families, please contact us.

Inner City Ministry

Inner City ministry is focused on making a difference with ethnic minorities living in Hong Kong – a group that is often neglected, marginalized and discriminated. We want to be involved in helping them in practical ways and sharing the life-changing truth of God’s love to the families.

1) Tutoring:  this takes place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings 6:30-8:30 p.m.  The focus of this ministry is to build relationships with the children/preteens to foster their relationship with Christ.  We strongly believe that Christ is what this community needs, and tutoring provides a means for us to convey and exemplify the gospel. We tutor children in English, Maths and Chinese (you do not need proficiency in all three areas to help out) which mainly involves helping the children with their homework.

2)  Youth Fellowship:  this ministry takes place on Friday evenings, 6:30-9p.m.  The focus here is to build relationships with youth (some may be past/current drug addicts), and come alongside their lives.  We strive to build edifying relationships with the youth and lead them towards a relationship with Christ.

3)  Kid's Club:  this ministry takes place on Saturday afternoons, 2-5p.m.  This ministry is focused on teachings from the Bible and worshipping with the children.  We use this opportunity to build relationships with children (age 4-12) to assist in fostering a trust and understanding of God's love for them.
