Enduring Through Conflict

This message continues our series on building endurance into our spiritual lives with a focus on how we can endure when faced with conflict. Using the account of a sharp disagreement between Paul and Barnabas in Acts 15:36-41 as the foundation, three basic principles, with scriptural support, are suggested as helpful ways to “run with perseverance the race before us” when faced with interpersonal conflicts.

Enduring Through Hardship

“Endure hardship as discipline”, we are told in Hebrews 12.7. Given that hardship is inevitable, we desperately need to know how to embrace it as discipline from a loving Father. This in-depth look at Hebrews 12 will provide tools for not just surviving the tough times, but making sure that we are refined in those times as well.

Enduring Through Confusion

When circumstances in life change, our faith is always impacted. Sometimes times of plenty make us forget our dependence on God. But change in the opposite direction can be devastating too. When crisis comes, we can lose our once-firm confidence in God. This message examines the life of John the Baptist, who Jesus said was the “greatest among those born of women” (Matthew 11.11). Even he doubted. And Jesus’ reply to the doubts of John the Baptist can help us overcome doubts as well.

Clean

Peter was confused about being clean. He rejected Jesus’ offer to wash his feet, and then a second later, pleaded for Jesus to wash his entire body. And then Jesus rejected that. Hmmm. So what does it mean to be clean and stay clean before God?

Greed To Generosity

Global giving statistics support the fact that the more money someone has, the less willing they are to part with it. Isn’t that odd? Percentage-wise, the most generous people are those who have the least. Perhaps that is why the apostle Paul wrote to his mentee, Timothy: "Command the rich to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share”. This message provides a framework for unmasking greed in our hearts, and a strategy for increasing our generosity.

Wrath To Understanding

Paul tells us to “be angry, but do not sin” (Ephesians 4:26a). If you’ve not been angry recently, then you are disobeying the command to be angry. It reveals that you don’t care deeply about things that should enrage you. But the greater, more frequent problem is that you are angry, and you simply don’t know how to get over it. Whether it shows itself as rage, impatience, silence, or withdrawal, anger will eat you up. This message examines the core causes, and provides insight on how to deal with it effectively.

Lust To Purity

Make no mistake, sex is powerful. The advertising industry has known that for a long time. It’s about time the church recognise this truth as well. The key is how you’ll direct that powerful force. This message examines Joseph and his temptation with Potiphar’s wife to understand more fully how lust attacks, and more importantly, how it can be overcome.

Gluttony To Self-Control

Eating and drinking is such an integral part of life and such a pleasure in this life. But not many of us would call ourselves a glutton. Not many of us have explored the connection between what we consume and our spiritual lives. This message will explore how gluttony can be a temptation for all, how self-control is life-giving, and lastly what is God’s vision beyond self control.

Sloth To Work

Being busy is an easy goal. It can also numb us from meaningful engagement with our lives. Sloth is not simply being lazy. And the remedy for sloth is not simply being busy.

Removing sloth from our lives means to connect more meaningfully with a life of intentionality and purpose. This message looks at balancing our time, and reviving our hearts for all the right things.

Envy To Contentment

Envy is the greatest of the seven deadly sins. It is hidden and deceptive, but powerful. In fact, envy is the first sin after Adam and Eve’s first sin.
But with contentment, there is great gain, the apostle Paul says.
As we identify and root out comparison in our lives, freedom and joy can grow.
