Membership
"For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us." (Romans12:4-6)
Similar to the way that we identify with Christʼs death, burial and resurrection in baptism, membership provides an opportunity for a Christian to identify with a local church. God has chosen the church as His medium for spreading the gospel and it is the visible expression of the body of Christ.
Island ECC wants to enable those who desire to find ways to be an active part of our local body of Christ and to serve along with us to advance God's kingdom work. To assist this, we offer classes regularly throughout the year. In order to become a member at our church, you must first meet 3 prerequisites before attending the Membership Class. They are:
- Baptised believer in Jesus Christ*
- Regular worship attendance (for at least 3 months)
- Joined The City (Island ECC's primary social connection point online.)
*At Island ECC, we recognise Believers Baptism as an acceptable form of baptism. This means that you were baptised at an age where you were able to make a declaration of faith in Jesus Christ. If you have not been baptised, you may want to consider our Baptism classes before you move on to membership.
Once you have met these prerequisites, you may begin the membership process, which involves three steps:
After the classes and completion of the SHAPE booklet and Spiritual Gifts Assessment, you will meet with someone from our Membership Team to discuss your SHAPE and Spiritual Gifts' results. This is a chance for you to get to know our church leadership and for them to assist you in being involved in what God is doing through Island ECC.
