Brett Hilliard
Senior Pastor and Staff Elder

I am originally from Lubbock, Texas, and often marvel at how far from home (literally and figuratively) I am in Hong Kong. We've been in Hong Kong for 10 years now, serving here at Island ECC the whole time. I have a Masters of Theology (ThM) degree from Dallas Seminary, and served with Campus Crusade for Christ for 6 years, as well as being an associate pastor in Memphis, Tennessee for 5 years before moving to Hong Kong.

I love tennis, sometimes to idolatrous levels. (I pray often for my backhand). I also love my four great kids, Abby, Hudson, Mary Grace, and Zane. Kids from A to Z, get it? I met my wife, Shannon, while at Texas Tech University, and consider her attraction to me the 2nd greatest display of mercy in my life (if you have to ask what is number one, you really, really need to come to church) For fun, it's tennis, the beach, good (and not so good) movies, and hanging with the family.

Executive Pastor and Staff Elder

My family and I have been living in Hong Kong for the past 8 years and we have come to consider this home. We love our small flat in Causeway Bay amidst the shops and crowds! Prior to becoming Executive Pastor at Island, I served as the Director of Asia Member Care for the International Mission Board, providing counselling and care-giving to missionary personnel throughout Asia. Before our move to Hong Kong in 2003, we had lived in Richmond Virginia and around Los Angeles, California, where I ministered as a pastor, taught seminary, worked as a professional counsellor, and served as a missions consultant and personnel manager. I earned my Ph.D. in clinical pastoral counselling at Claremont School of Theology in California, after completing the M.Div. at Southern Seminary and completing two Masters in counseling specialties at other schools.

My wife, Jane, and I were married in 1975 … after a long five years of dating! She holds a Master’s degree in education from the University of Southern California and was a teacher for over 25 years. We have three grown children – Daniel, who will be married this coming May, Toby, who is living with us and hoping to have a future here in Hong Kong as a musician, and Miriam, who is completing her college education in Virginia. If you haven’t met my wife, she is a natural encourager and speaks great Cantonese (for a Westerner). I’m trying to catch up on my reading, enjoy the latest movie, and get more exercise.

I’m from Louisiana in the southern part of the United States. God began to move me to Hong Kong in 2002 when my wife, Cindy, and I travelled to China, and returned to America with a changed perspective of the world and a clear passion for wanting to be a part of God's church in Asia. After graduating from Dallas Theological Seminary with a Masters of Biblical Studies, I started working at Island ECC in 2004 as the "youth guy" and have had many roles throughout the years, including leading worship and starting the media ministry at the church. Currently, I am the Pastor of Young Adults and also work with pre-marital counselling.

Cindy and I have two wonderful daughters, Lily and Violette, who were both born in Hong Kong. We are currently in the process of adoption and are hoping to add another beautiful "flower" to our bouquet. I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to music, watching sports (LSU and the Saints!) and playing with computers (Macs!). Also, I have an almost scary amount of movie trivia knowledge that finds its way into most conversations.

I was born in a farming village in China. My family later moved to HK and we lived in the famous walled city until it was demolished. I was trained as an Electronic Engineer in the the University of Hong Kong. However, while studying in HKU, God intervened into my life. Through a series of mission trips, God opened my eyes to the need of the worldwide mission field. After I finished University, God called me into full time ministry and I served with Campus Crusade for 16 years. My ministry experiences include pioneering a student ministry in HKUST, directing a new staff training centre, overseeing the administration and finance, and lastly as the interim director for the HK ministry.

I am married to Elisa, and we have two little boys, Micah and Justin. We started worshiping in Island ECC since 2002 after relocating from Scotland. We joined a care group and I started volunteering by teaching baptism classes. I joined Island ECC as pastor in July 2008.

I received a Master of Theology degree from The University of Aberdeen in Scotland and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Los Angeles. My interest is to look into how God develops spiritual leaders and how to avoid leadership failure. I enjoy reading, coffee, and durian, though not necessarily all at the same time.

I was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada and moved to Hong Kong in 1987 with my family. My mom starting attending ECC and told me about its youth group. I went for the first time as a lost and lonely teen and felt welcomed from the first meeting.

I was saved, discipled and baptized at ECC and was the youth director from 1997-99. From 1999-2002 I was a newspaper journalist. In the middle of that transition I met Becky, a teacher and my wife-to-be, at church. Together we heard God calling us to global outreach and in August 2002 we were commissioned by ECC to Vietnam. I served in Hanoi for 9 years, first as an English teacher and Language & Culture Development director with English Language Institute (ELIC) and later as Country Director for Glocal Ventures, a volunteer mobilizing organization.

Becky and I have three children, Hannah, Allison and Zachary. I love living in Ma On Shan and taking outings with my family. I have a BA in Politics and Film Studies from Queen’s University, Canada, and an MA in Teaching from Lee University, Tennessee, USA.

I am thrilled to be leading Global Outreach at Island ECC and amazed at the way God has brought us back to Hong Kong, the church family and my spiritual roots.

I’m a father of four, Kyle (16), Logan (16), Bradley (14) and Lauren (11), and have been married to Rose since 1992. I have lived in Hong Kong since 1987, working in the finance, Internet and media industries, and started to attend ECC when it met at Baptist University around 1989. I have taught children of all ages in Kids Club for almost ten years. My ministry passions include life-on-life discipleship, working with the youth in Transformers and Kids Club, and working with men of all ages in the areas of marriage, family and purity. Rose and I have been part of the Ryan's care group (now in Pokfulam) for more than 15 years. I love to run, bike and ski.

I was born in Seoul and grew up moving back and forth between Korea and the United States. I accepted Christ in high school, at a Korean church youth retreat in New York. Our family moved to Hong Kong and started attending Island ECC in 2004. I have since served as a teacher in the youth ministry, a co-leader of a care group and an Alpha course group leader. I am married to Minsun Wei (who to this day remains the most Godly woman I know), and we have two children, Hetty and Shin-Jae. I’m a partner at an international law firm and an avid (but sadly struggling) golfer.

I was born in Hong Kong but with a Chinese Malaysian heritage, and grew up in a loving family with strong believers as parents and two supportive siblings. I made a conscious decision to accept Christ as my Lord and Saviour when I was in junior high. I moved to Sydney briefly and settled in Los Angeles when I was young, and spent my formative years in Los Angeles and Boston. I have since worked in Hong Kong and many other places such as London, Manila, Yangon, Veracruz, Buenos Aires, Pattaya, Karachi, Ensenada, Seoul and Alexandria. I served the Lord through various capacities in the past in a para-church fellowship in Boston and a church in Los Angeles including discipleship, counselling, worship leading, Bible teaching, etc. I began attending ECC in 1996, and served in the church as an offering and communion steward occasionally and have been a care group leader for many years. I work in the corporate finance area and have a passion for skiing.

I grew up in a farming community in the US and since my parents were Christians I grew up in and around the church. At the age of seven I made a personal decision of faith and in my university years I recommitted my life to Christ and chose to live “full-on” for God.

In response to a challenge to be “a light in a place of darkness” I worked for more than five years as a jailer/prison guard in Seattle. Twenty-six years ago my wife, Carol, and I moved to Hong Kong and have been in full-time ministry throughout this time.

We began attending Island ECC in 2005. Since then we have been part of the Shatin Care Group, and for the past year Carol and I have helped to lead this group. I have participated in Men's Fraternity, helped lead a men’s 2:7 group, and am part of a team from Island ECC which regularly visits one of the prisons in HK.

I am blessed with a fabulous wife, great family and love being part of Island ECC.

I grew up in the Philippines where as a child I committed my life to Christ as my Lord and Saviour. Since then my life has been a series of adventures in the Lord, having lived in Manila, the US, Singapore and Hong Kong, and having worked in the financial services industry throughout.

I came to Hong Kong in 2004 and started attending IECC, where I met Vicki who is now my wife and soon to be the mother of our first child. I have a passion for studying God’s Word and building His kingdom through ministry involvement in teaching, discipleship, and apologetics. I have served as facilitator for the 2:7 men’s classes at IECC and continue to participate in a discipleship ministry at the church.

I enjoy hiking and other outdoor activities, travelling, watching movies, and engaging the thinking sceptic with the truth of the Gospel.
